If you're gearing up for burning man's return this year, I have some custom swamp coolers that are pretty ideal for keeping you cool in the desert climate. They're also great for any other off-the-grid cooling applications (we use one in our travel trailer) or as a cooling backup when PG&E inevitably institutes their rolling blackouts during the next heat wave. They use very little power and run for days off a 12v battery and/or solar without the need for a generator (none of these are included). You can use any 12 volt power source (RV battery, vehicle power, deep cycle marine or golf cart batteries), or household voltage with an adapter (optional).

They're great for cooling smaller rooms, as well as trailers, rvs, vans, tents, hexayurts, etc. They're sort of the deluxe version of the do-it-yourself bucket cooler (instructions can be found online if you want to build your own basic one). They work best in arid climates (I grew up using swamp coolers in Concord, CA), but not so great in humid places. Unlike air conditioning, they add cool moisture to the air.

These are all new, and the wireless remote controlled ones can be operated from the comfort of your bed inside your dwelling. The cooler operates best when it's outside and does filter out dust and particulates. They use heavy duty marine grade fans and are pre-wired. They also come fitted with a 4" hose with end cap which inserts easily into some tents like the Shiftpod, No Bake Tent, and Outback Logic's Siesta series ports.

The only things required are water (any temperature) and a 12 volt power source (or 110/120 volt with an appropriate power adapter, optional). The $80 costco marine batteries will run this for between 25-35 hours before recharging (use a 12v battery charger or solar panel or generator to charge the battery back up).
